Overview: VU Magic is committed to user transparency and data protection. Sensitive data (such as LMS Vault accounts and your UI preferences) is stored locally on your device. We do not sell, rent, or monetize any user information. All third-party services used for optional features (such as quiz bank sync and live chat) are comprehensively disclosed below.
VU Magic collects and processes only the minimum data required to provide study utilities, lecture tracking, and academic automation for Virtual University (VU) and DigiSkills students:
- LMS Account Manager (Vault) Data: If you use the optional LMS Vault feature, your Student ID, Account Label, and Password are saved to allow one-click login and quick account switching.
- Academic & Course Progress Data: Course codes, lecture completion statuses, attendance data, quiz schedules, and assignment deadlines retrieved directly from the VULMS pages you browse.
- Quiz Questions and Answers: When taking formative assessments and quizzes, question text and selected options may be processed to generate study guides and facilitate community question synchronization.
- Community Live Chat Content: User-submitted public messages, timestamps, and chosen display names in the community chat tab.
- User Preferences: UI settings including Dark Mode status, video skip preferences, and notification reminder timestamps.
- Direct User Input: When you enter credentials into the LMS Vault or send messages in the community live chat.
- Automated In-Page Reading: When you navigate supported portals (e.g.
vu.edu.pkanddigiskills.pk), the extension reads relevant academic elements (such as lecture duration, course IDs, and completion flags) to automate video tracking, calculate attendance, and display deadline badges.
All data collected is used solely to deliver and operate the core functions of the Extension:
- To track video lecture completion and automate progression smoothly.
- To calculate attendance percentages, GPA/CGPA estimations, and final exam target marks.
- To auto-fill login forms when you request to sign in using the local LMS Vault.
- To provide crowdsourced quiz review and peer-to-peer student discussion.
- To persist your display preferences (such as Dark Mode) across sessions.
We apply strict data protection and minimization practices:
- Local Device Storage: Your LMS Vault account credentials, preferences, and cached timelines are saved on your local device using
chrome.storage.localandIndexedDB. They remain in your browser and are never sold or transferred to advertisers. - Encryption in Transit: Any communication with backend APIs or real-time databases is transmitted securely using industry-standard protocols (HTTPS / TLS and secure WSS WebSockets).
- Data Retention: Local data is retained until you manually delete it or uninstall the extension from Chrome.
We do not sell, lease, or trade user data. Data is shared exclusively with the following services strictly to support specific extension features:
- Cloudflare Workers (Community Quiz Database): Quiz questions and options are synchronized via
vu-db-worker.gptquiz.workers.devsolely to power the crowdsourced question pool. No personal student profile details or credentials are ever transmitted to this service. - Google Firebase Realtime Database: Public chat messages, timestamps, and usernames in the community chat tab are transmitted via Firebase RTDB to enable real-time messaging between students.
- Third-Party AI Tools (OpenAI ChatGPT & Google Gemini): When you choose to use the AI study helper, the extension opens official web interfaces in a side window. Your interactions with those services are governed directly by OpenAI's and Google's respective privacy policies.
You have complete control over all data stored by the extension:
- LMS Vault Accounts: You can edit or permanently remove any saved account at any time by clicking the trash icon inside the LMS Vault interface.
- Purging All Stored Data: You can delete all local data immediately by clearing extension storage in Chrome (
chrome://settings/content/all) or by right-clicking the VU Magic icon and selecting "Remove from Chrome".
- activeTab & scripting: To interact with VULMS, DigiSkills, and Cisco pages when you activate the extension tools.
- storage: To save your preferences, dark mode setting, and LMS Vault accounts locally on your computer.
- declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess: To adjust necessary network headers on VULMS domains for browser compatibility.
- contextMenus: To provide quick helper options (like copying quiz questions) from the right-click menu.
- windows & system.display: To properly size and position AI assistant popups on your screen.
- host permissions: Restricted to
*.vu.edu.pk,vu-db-worker.gptquiz.workers.dev, andchat.openai.com.
